Tasks and actions of the security forces evolve with time. Typical reactions to emergencies are obviously not the same today than 50 years ago, even 20 years ago. Drones are one of the most practical resources than can be currently used to perform these tasks in a faster, more effective and more secure way. This was recently explained by AIRK Drones CEO, David Matanzas, in his speech at the National Meeting of Civil Protection, that took place in Milagro (Navarra, Spain).

Consider, for instance, a criminal escaping in a car, with the police forces chasing him or her. If, besides police vehicles, the runaway is stalked by a drone equipped with a camera, the officers will literally have a much clearer picture of the situation, therefore deciding if it is dangerous -or not- to approach the criminal, and to act consequently.

In the case of a medical emergency, a drone can also be amazingly helpful. Let’s take a heart attack, with someone needing immediate assistance. If a drone is prepared with a first aid kit, it could travel by air much faster than an ambulance driven through the city streets.

This is also true in disasters such as earthquakes, fires or people being trapped in inaccessible places. Drones can move more easily than people, and equipped with the required material, they could save lives faster and more efficiently than conventional teams.

All of these, and other simulations and examples, which prove that drones allow to plan and organize any security force action in a more efficient and optimized way, were shown at Milagro’s Nacional Meeting of Civil Protection, where the CEO of AIRK Drones also analyzed the new Spanish regulatory framework on the use of RPAS and its implementation on emergencies.

Its most significant element is the fact that security forces and bodies are not required to meet all the requirements which are prescribed by law: for its exceptional nature, they have a reduced regulatory framework - solely what is provided on the law’s chapters I and II. This applies to police forces, custom surveillance services, forest officers, firemen, civil protection, Red Cross staff, etc.
