Drones are more and more present in our lives. Maybe the most popular uses amongst general public are its security applications. But unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) also have more unknown uses. For instance, the ones that follow.

Big events

We witnessed it during Brazil football world cup, at Lady Gaga show on the last Superbowl, or during the recent solar eclipse that could be seen in America. Drones can fly lower than helicopters and, if equipped with a good camera, can get shots that seemed virtually impossible not that long ago. A whole new world is to discover for audiovisual journalists, TV producers and filmmakers.

Home delivery

It’s real: in India, Russia and Israel, drones are already delivering pizza. In China, the SF Express company is also using them for postal deliveries. And in the US, the popular initiative of quick drone deliveries by Amazon is only waiting to be regulated. Home delivery with drones is, therefore, a matter of the present and of the future.

Tax control

Another use that will please some and upset some others is tax control. Let’s take the case of a piece of land that is declared as wasteland, without any buildings or crops in it. A simple drone flight will allow the Tax Agency of the corresponding country to verify if it is true, and to act accordingly. In Argentina and in Spain it is already the case.

Archaeological and geological research

In Peru, several drones were used to study Cerro Chepén ruins: in barely ten minutes, more than 700.000 pictures were obtained, about 50 times more than by more conventional means. Moreover, what could be better than a drone to enter inside an active volcano or into the eye of a hurricane in order to try to predict its path? Results are really amazing.

Harmful material handling

Following with the uses on too dangerous tasks for a human being, an UAV can be the best option for manipulating, cleaning or studying harmful materials. A good example would be the accident at Fukushima nuclear plant, where drones were used to obtained a detailed view of the interior of the nuclear reactor, in order to draft a cleaning and leak prevention plan. No human being could have done it without putting his or her health in great danger.

Drones as satellites

This is indeed a bet for the future, but research is already being conducted regarding the possibility of using drones to create Internet networks in areas without coverage. Such drones would work on solar energy, and could perform the same tasks as satellites do… only that cheaper, and with a more specific coverage area.

Drones… a toy?

Last but not least, a ludic touch: why not playing with a drone? Although a toy multicopter is not exactly a drone, it is true that a drone can be used as a toy. Whether using drone footage for videogames development, or just making it fly in your garden, the playful use of drones will not only become more and more popular, but it proves to be absolutely recommended for kids and grown-ups to test their reflexes and skills.

Possibilities offered by AIRK

These are only some examples of applications that drones can offer today, but new possibilities and uses are constantly appearing. This is why AIRK has designed the most versatile multicopters of the market, so that startups and researchers can develop their inventions and new applications in the easiest way.
